CABIN CONSTRUCTION

a continuous personal project
In early 2020, I asked my father if I could construct a small cabin in our backyard. I found a good spot and had a passion for the project. Thus, my father supported me in sourcing supplies and teaching me the skills needed to build a structure like this.

2020

The project began while my school went to remote learning. After finding a good spot, I made a level foundation and we constructed the main frame. The outer paneling was installed in time for winter.

2021

I stained the outside panels of the cabin. Then, I installed the first half of the ceiling boards.

2022

I finished installing the ceiling boards and we positioned the windows, beginning to frame them before winter.

2023

I stained the trim around the windows, door, and frame of the cabin. We installed the door, though it needs to be repainted still.

2024

I took an EEP Semester this spring and spent my time running electrical through the walls of the cabin, putting up insulation, and installing drywall for the interior.

A Work In Progress

Over the past four years, my father and I have continued to design this cabin in our spare time. It offers a good relief from the routine of work and school, and it has taught me many useful skills as well as a greater love for carpentry and construction.
